The first navigable stretch of the canal was completed and in use in late 1769. The canal was extended and linked to neighbouring canals in the decades to come. Industries were encouraged to link to the canal by their own feeders.

There are 100 miles of the BCN with a wonderful mixture of scenes – hereditadary industry, tunnels, detours, bridges, and wonderful rural aspects – all waiting to be explored.

You can cruise, walk, or cycle 99% of these navigations – a great way to experience our English inheritance.
